The Siegfried Heuser Square is located in downtown Santa Cruz do Sul, on the corner of Ernesto Alves Street and Júlio de Castilhos Street, and it was inaugurated in September of 2001. It is named after Siegfried Heuser, an important citizen for the city of Santa Cruz do Sul.
The Square is an important landmark and tourist attraction in the City. It is situated next to the railway station, which was inaugurated on November 19, 1905, the same day Santa Cruz do Sul was elevated to the status of a city.
With ample space, it is used for many different activities, such as afternoon and evening walks. Another highlight of the Square is the Municipal Skate Park, inaugurated in March 2007, which allows the practice of free-style, street and vertical modalities. With 900 square meters of built area and international standards, the skate park can accommodate up to 60 users simultaneously. In addition to the Skate Park, the Square offers other leisure options, such as a sand court, a playground and an outdoor gym.
The “Iron Man” is the most notable monument in Siegfried Heuse Square. It was inaugurated in November 2004, designed and made by Alceo Luis da Costa, with the help of students from the welding workshop. The statue was built from discarded objects that would have been thrown away. The physiognomy of the “Iron Man” was carefully thought out to represent the miscegenation of Santa Cruz do Sul.
