The Prefeito Telmo Kirst Lake, named after the former mayor, is located on ERS 409, approximately 15 minutes by car from downtown Santa Cruz do Sul. It is a water reservoir of great importance to the city. The place has a total area of 228.43 hectares, of which 120 hectares are filled by the water body.
The area was conceived in 1997 by Normélio Egídio Boettcher, a businessman, former councillor and former deputy mayor of Santa Cruz do Sul. The adjacent sports facility is named Normélio Egídio Boettcher Spots Complex in his tribute. The complex offers a walking and cycling track, beach tennis, footvolley, and volleyball courts, as well as a soccer field. It also offers free bicycles for public use on site.
In 2000, the lake was inaugurated under the leadership of Telmo Kirst, who was then State Secretary of Construction, Sanitation and Housing. In 2015, as mayor of the city, he began transforming the lake into a place for recreation and physical activity by inaugurating the first deck.
